South African Retail Trade: According to Statistics South Africa, in February 2025, South Africa’s retail trade sales saw a 3.9% year-on-year increase in real terms. The most significant contributors to this growth were retailers specializing in textiles, clothing, footwear, and leather goods (15.7% increase), and general dealers (3.4% increase). The retail sector contributes significantly to South Africa’s GDP, representing close to 20%. Consumers increasingly expect a seamless shopping experience across online, in-store, and mobile platforms, requiring retailers to invest in omnichannel strategies.
Nigerian Retail Trade: The Nigerian retail market is estimated to be worth $40 billion, with a projected growth rate of 10.72% annually in the Shopping market, according to Statista. According to Oxford Business Group, approximately 90% of retail transactions in Nigeria happen through informal channels, including street vendors and open-air markets.
Thailand Retail Trade: Thailand is experience one of its biggest retail growth spurts in history with retail trade sales in Thailand surging 41.4% year-on-year in April 2025. This is the highest growth surge since November 2012.
Kenyan Retail Trade: According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), the wholesale and retail trade sector ranks fifth in GDP contribution. The retail trade sector is changing rapidly as modern trade, currently at 35% of total retail trade, is growing year on year. Online shopping has grown by 16.4 percent annually in recent years making it one of the fastest expansions in Africa.
