Frontline Research Group head-quarters teams have visited all the major economies in sub-Saharan Africa in the first few months of 2025. These visits have served several purposes and range from training our field researchers, through to presenting research results to our clients.
Ethiopia
We have recently launched a new research project covering the length and breadth of Ethiopia. This is one of the largest countries in Africa, has the second largest population on the continent and has seen very rapid economic growth in recent years.
Our HQ team spent time in this great country training and preparing our field researchers for the new project and reported back that the training went well and that “we have a fantastic field team based in various parts of Ethiopia who are incredibly strong individuals with the knowledge and skills to make this project a resounding success”.
Kenya
Kenya is another strong and fast-growing economy, and we have a number of ongoing projects in this East African country.
Our dedicated team reported that they had the opportunity to conduct retail audit site visits with our client, and performed an up-close look at the market dynamics and consumer behaviour in Kenya. The in-person engagement allowed for rich conversations and deeper understanding of the retail landscape.
It was an insightful experience, and we gathered valuable data that we presented to our client, which we believe will help them drive growth and innovation in the region.
Zambia
With our upcoming, targeted, retail tracking study in Lusaka and the Copperbelt due to start shortly, our HQ team paid a visit to Zambia to prepare and train our team of researchers.
Once the training was complete our HQ team walked the streets and spent time with the field researchers gathering data, providing guidance and learning first-hand how the Zambian retail landscape operates.
Nigeria
Nigeria is both the most populous country and has the biggest economy in Africa. We spent a week with our in-country partner, diving into the culture and gathering insights into the retail trade of this remarkable country.
We spent much time with our partner, sharing information, to ensure that our research projects maintain the highest of standards.
Our HQ team thoroughly enjoyed exploring the streets, savouring the local food and drinks while immersing themselves in the Lagos culture.
Despite the sensory overload, they reported back with valuable market insights and, having spoken to numerous outlet owners, gained a deeper understanding of how business operates.
By the end of the visit, they were speaking the local slang and reported being completely enchanted by the people and the vibrant atmosphere of this great city.
Tanzania
Tanzania is a country we know very well, having completed a retail census of the entire country in 2023, and gathered data on over 99 000 retail outlets.
We recently presented our latest retail audit findings on the non-alcoholic beverage industry to key clients. Our presentation wasn’t just about the data but also conveyed our insights and a data-driven view of distribution, pricing, share trends, and execution gaps with the intention of helping our clients make informed decisions in an evolving market.
The post presentation discussions were insightful, with a strong focus on translating data into actionable strategies. It’s always rewarding to see how research fuels growth and market excellence.
Namibia
Just as with Tanzania we wrapped up a successful presentation of retail audit results for our valued clients in Namibia.
The session highlighted insights into market trends and growth opportunities for retail businesses. The key takeaways included competitor benchmarking and data-driven growth strategies.
In the next few days, we will also be sending our HQ teams to Mozambique, eSwatini and Lesotho.
